Droylsden Canalside Quarter is a mixed-use development intended to complement and extend the centre of the existing town. The central focus of the development is a new marina to be created off the Ashton Canal, and many proposed buildings will directly address this basin or canal itself. Away from this focus, a new street pattern is established, drawing routes down to the waterside through from surrounding streets, as a continuation of a modern and contemporary character.

Below are the key facts and pointers to the new development located in Droylsden, Manchester.

- Outline proposals for the commercial development sites within the scheme intended for sale to potential operators of a 60 (or 90) bed hotel (site 24) a café/bar(site 23), a restaurant(site 22), a community pub (site 21), a health/fitness club (site 26) and a 2 level decked car park for the retail/commercial aspects of this development(site 25).

Public transport: At present the site is well connected in terms of public transport. Manchester Road offers good bus connections east and west, and Fairfield station is 1 mile away. In future it is proposed that the metro link tram network will extend eastwards through Droylsden, with a station on Manchester road, immediately adjacent to the other side of the market street junction.
Ashton Canal: The scheme proposes an extension of the canal northwards to create a new marina; this has been chosen to follow the line of the former Hollinwood Arm of the canal. The marina straddles the former line of the canal, terminating this new extension. However, the canal originally continued northwards beyond Manchester road (an indication of this is the hump-backed bridge on Manchester road). There is a canal users society interested in re-activating this line of the canal, and to insure that this can occur, the scheme has been designed around this potential work.
